What shipping costs
Shipping costs USD 4.99 per order. It is free when the subtotal of your cart is USD 50.00 or more, or when every item in the cart ships free. The cart says it in one line under the summary: "Shipping: USD 4.99, free from USD 50.00 or when every item ships free."
The fee is one fee per order, not per item. Two kettles and a lamp in one order pay USD 4.99 once, or nothing at all if the subtotal reaches USD 50.00.
The subtotal is the sum of the items before a coupon. A coupon lowers the total you pay, but it does not change whether shipping is free: a cart of USD 60.00 with SAVE25 still ships free, although you pay USD 35.00 for the items.
Items that ship free
Some products ship free on their own. Their cards in the catalog carry a "Free shipping" badge, and the catalog's "Free shipping" filter shows only them. A cart in which every item ships free pays no shipping, whatever its subtotal.
One item without free shipping is enough for the fee to come back when the subtotal is under USD 50.00. For example, the Hearthline Classic Kettle 1.7 l costs USD 49.00 and does not ship free: one of them pays USD 4.99 for shipping, and the cart says "Add USD 1.00 more for free shipping." Two of them, USD 98.00, ship free: "Shipping is free for this order."
The Steel kettle 1.7 l (USD 24.00) and the Kettlewick Gooseneck Pour-Over Kettle (USD 79.00) ship free. Not every kettle does: look at the product's page or card before you count on it.
What the cart tells you
While the subtotal is under USD 50.00 and at least one item pays shipping, the cart shows how much is missing: "Add USD 2.00 more for free shipping." The amount is always the difference between the subtotal and USD 50.00.
When shipping is free, the cart says "Shipping is free for this order." The same shipping amount goes into the order when you check out, and the order page shows it next to the subtotal, the discount and the total.
When a paid order arrives
A paid order gets a delivery date 5 days after the payment. You see it as "delivery by" on the order page and in the "Delivery by" column of Orders. An order that is awaiting payment has no delivery date yet, and a cancelled order never gets one.
The delivery date is the only delivery information Shelf keeps. There is no tracking number, and an order has no "shipped" or "delivered" status: its status is awaiting payment, paid or cancelled.
Express delivery
Shelf has no express delivery, no next-day delivery and no paid upgrade of any kind. Every order ships the same way and for the same fee. If someone tells you that you can pay extra to get an order sooner, that is not a Shelf rule.
Where Shelf ships
Shelf ships to the 40 countries in the checkout's "Country" list, from Argentina to the United States. The fee and the free-shipping rule are the same for every country, and every price stays in USD.
The currency switcher in the header shows prices in EUR or GBP at fixed demo rates, for display only. The order itself is placed and paid in USD.
The delivery address
You enter the address at checkout, in the Delivery part: Recipient name, Street address, City, Postcode and Country. The postcode may contain letters, digits, spaces and hyphens. Use a made-up name and address: Shelf is a training shop, and nothing is ever sent.
The address is saved with the order and shown on the order page. It cannot be changed after the order is placed. If an address is wrong, cancel the order while it is awaiting payment and place a new one.
